New Board member for Electricity Authority

Cristiano Marantes has been appointed to the Board of the Electricity Authority.
Dr Marantes, Chief Executive of Ara Ake, has been appointed for a five-year term which commences on 1 July 2023.
"I welcome Cristiano to the Authority and look forward to his input and knowledge as New Zealand’s electricity sector navigates the transition to a low-emissions energy future," says Board Chair Dr Nicki Crauford.
"Cristiano is vastly experienced in energy innovation and the adoption of new technologies. The insights he will bring to the Authority will be invaluable and complement the skillset of the existing Board,” says Dr Crauford.
There are six members of the Authority: Dr Nicki Crauford (Chair), Allan Dawson, Lana Stockman, Erik Westergaard, Paula Rose and Dr Cristiano Marantes.
Background information on appointee
Dr Cristiano Marantes has a comprehensive background in the international energy sector. He is Chief Executive of Ara Ake, New Zealand’s Future Energy Centre, which he has led since August 2020. Prior to that he held senior roles at Vector Limited and UK Power Networks. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester.
